Program Coordinator Fran Ficocelli has devoted much of her life to working with children with disabilities. Her first contact with SpEdConnecticut (formerly known as LDA of CT) came in 2001, when she reached out for assistance with her son, who has autism. The organization so impressed her with its genuine concern for all children with disabilities that she wanted to become part of it. She started out as a volunteer and by 2002 was a trained parent advisor. She next accepted the post of SpEdConnecticut office manager, and then was promoted to program coordinator.
“I love my job—you know that you're helping a parent secure an appropriate education for their child,” Fran says. “You’re giving back to that family member not only your knowledge, but the understanding that you know personally what the individual family is going through.”
