Board of Directors

Board President Carrie Berman holds a BA degree in History from Bates College and an M.Ed from Teachers College of Columbia University. She is a founding member and former president of the West Hartford Special Education PTA. She participated in SpEdConnecticut's (formerly known as LDA of CT) Parent Advisory Training program and currently serves as a Parent Advisor. Carrie resides in West Hartford with her husband and three children, one whom is significantly disabled. She is passionate about supporting families with children who have special needs.

Colleen Masse, Vice President of Programs, became involved in SpEdConnecticut (formerly known as LDA of CT) when she participated in the parent advisor training in 2007. She graduated from Bates College in 1992 and University of Connecticut School of Law in 1995. A West Hartford resident, she is the mother of two boys, including one with learning disabilities. Colleen has volunteered as a parent advisor and organized a monthly meeting where parent advisors can share information and support.

Board Treasurer William J. Bossi, FSA, MAAA, is the president and managing member of Disability Insurance Specialists LLC, an insurance consulting and third-party administration firm. Prior to founding DISpecialists in 1996, Mr. Bossi served three years as an independent actuarial consultant and 16 years with The Prudential Insurance Company, Connecticut General Life Insurance Company/CIGNA, Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, and Monarch Life Insurance Company. He received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He received his fellowship in the Society of Actuaries in 1983 and became a member of the American Academy of Actuaries in 1985. He has served on the Society of Actuaries Subcommittee for Minority Recruiting and has been a speaker at industry meetings. He is a past president of the SpEdConnecticut (formerly known as LDA of CT) board.

Judi Bunker is a retired special education teacher for River Street School, Windsor (CREC) where she taught children with severe developmental disabilities. She was a consultant for the school in 2006-2007.  She has a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Hartford and a certification in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University. Presently, she is a Board member of SpEdConnecticut (formerly known as LDA of CT) and a parent advisor. She also is a surrogate with the State Department of Education for special education students in foster care. She is a volunteer with Covenant to Care for children which gives support to kids in foster care. She is a mother of four children and a grandmother of nine, some of  whom have special needs.

Roger Bunker, Esq. graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts, Columbia University with a Masters of International Affairs, and received his Juris Doctoral degree  from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He has worked in the commercial and international banking environment for many years. Since 1995 he has been in a private legal practice that focuses on special education. Roger participated in the Parent Advisor course in 1995 and is an active member of SpEdConnecticut (formerly known as LDA of CT). He resides with his wife Judi and is a parent and grandparent of children with educational disabilities.

Harriet "Jeff" Clark graduated from Oberlin College with a bachelor's degree in psychology and from Central Connecticut State University with a master's degree in special education. She was a special education teacher in the Southington school system for 26 years, serving students in grades K through 12. Her specialty is reading disabilities, including dyslexia. Jeff has been active in SpEdConnecticut (formerly known as LDA of CT) since the late 1970s, serving as a board member, newsletter editor, annual conference planner, and president. Since retirement, she has been a parent advisor and, most recently, coordinator of the parent-advisor training, recruiter of new PAs, and conference planner.

Cindy Kellerstedt graduated from University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree, from University of New Haven with a Master of Science Education, and Central Connecticut University with a Master of Science-Educational Technology and Media. She holds a State of Connecticut Teaching certification K- 6 and is the director of Triune Learning Center which is a ministry of Tree of Life Christian Fellowship Church based in New London, Connecticut. Cindy has been active in SpEdConnecticut (formerly known as LDA of CT) for several years serving on the annual conference committee, participated in SpEdConnecticut’s Parent Advisory Training program and currently serves as a Parent Advisor.

Gerry McMahon, Esq. Since 1987, Ms. McMahon has protected the legal rights of children and adults. She was a partner with a prominent Michigan law firm where she spent the first 
10 years of her legal career. She continued her career in New England  Litigating in New York and Connecticut federal courts while associated with the Manhattan based law firm of Morgenstern, Jacobs & Blue. Ms. McMahon founded The Law Offices of Gerry McMahon, LLC in 2007. Her practice includes representing children, adolescents, and young adults with special needs to assure that they receive the education and accommodations to which they are entitled in their local school districts or elsewhere as necessary to meet their needs.
 
Gerry lives in Ridgefield with her husband and their two children.  Gerry has advocated, and continues to advocate, for services for one of her children who struggles with learning disabilities.
