Our Mission

SpEdConnecticut is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making a positive difference in the education, employment and independent living of individuals with disabilities by:

• helping families of children with disabilities navigate the complex educational process;
• facilitating productive communication between parents of children with disabilities and school personnel;
• referring families of children with disabilities and adults with learning disabilities to appropriate service providers and community resources; and
• training parents and professionals in best practices in special education.

Our History

For the past 48 years, SpEdConnecticut has had several name changes and moved numerous times, but our mission has remained constant – to increase awareness and understanding of children who learn differently and to secure appropriate educational services for this population in accordance with state and federal laws.

SpEdConnecticut is a registered non-profit organization. We rely on trained volunteers to provide direct service to parents of children with a variety of special education needs anywhere in the state. We maintain an office in Hartford to receive phone calls, provide initial information and support, conduct training, and maintain literature resources.
